Phil's Tavern 5k: PR

On Wednesday as Jason and I were walking from the parking lot to the start of the race I said, "My body hurts I think I'm just going to take this one for fun and not worry about my time"

Then I stepped on the start line and those thoughts vanished.

The first 0.1 of the race went up hill, I tried to keep my pace in check, so as not to go out too fast. First .25 was 8:35avg pace.

As I approached .5 miles in, I realized my breathing wasn't laboring and I felt pretty great considering. My pace was just under 8:00avg.  Had a moment of doubting myself and thought my watch was wrong. Quickly shifted my mindset by saying to myself, "Your fitness is there"

Turned the corner from the campus road to Meetinghouse, saw my hubby and the smile exploded onto my face! At this point I felt amazing and was running about 7:54avg.

Hit mile 1 and my watch read off Mile 1 - 7:58.

We turned into a neighborhood and I saw more hills and then as soon as I hit the half way mark, the pain cave set in! Courtney Dauwalter has the best advice, get in the pain cave and just keep chipping away.

I just kept telling myself:
👉 Less than 2 miles
👉 Less than 1 and a half miles
👉 Less than a mile!

I really started to labor at 2.1 miles and then I remembered "I GET TO DO THIS!! MY AMAZING BODY IS DOING THIS, JUST HANG ON TIGHT"

The 3 mile marker was within sight, just a small rolling hill and I'd be able to see the finish line.

👉Keep moving your legs, you can collapse at the finish, you don't have to do anything else today. I was telling myself anything to will me to the end, to stop the pain!

There it was, the 3 mile marker, just a downhill finish kick between me and the line.

Somewhere on that hill I hit 3:36 pace for probably 1 second.

With just a few steps left to the finish, I saw the clock.....

...wait that's a 24:! What?! I screamed out loud at the top of my lungs, "ahhhhhhhhh!"

I crossed the finish line in my own world, elated that I just broke my PR from 2020 by more than a minute.

5k chip results: 24:14 7:48avg

Hard work pays off, it's all worth it! There's nothing in the world that feels like beating yourself! 🎉
